Hachette Book Group Canada News

EATING ANIMALS by Jonathan Safran Foer had some terrific Canadian coverage this weekend, including rave reviews in THE GLOBE AND MAIL on Nov 14 and THE WINNIPEG FREE PRESS on Nov 15 and will be interviewed next week for CBC RADIO ONE - THE SUNDAY EDITION (with guest host Kevin Sylvester) out of CBC’s NY studio. The 30 minute interview is scheduled to air around 9 am on Nov 29.
Review quotes as follows:
o “Now, having read Jonathan Safran Foer's book (twice), I am relieved to report I like it even better… How terrific that he has emerged with an accessible, snappily written work destined for mainstream media focus and a wide readership… What Foer contributes is his uniquely arresting ability to convey unspeakable descriptions and first-person accounts of how food animals live and die.” —The Globe and Mail
o “[A] wide-ranging, personal and effective exploration of how meat gets to our mouths -- and whether it should at all…” —Winnipeg Free Press

Michael Connelly had a half page profile in the TORONTO STAR’s Entertainment section on Nov 14 (highest circ. newspaper in Canada).

Malcolm Gladwell discussed his latest national bestseller, WHAT THE DOG SAW, on CBC Radio’s THE CURRENT (national radio) on Nov 18. Listen to the full 30 minute interview HERE (part 3). He also had interviews last week with THE GLOBE AND MAIL and CANADIAN BUSINESS MAGAZINE (print dates tbc).

Gail Collins and her recently published book, WHEN EVERYTHING CHANGED, are praised in the Dec issue of CHATELAINE MAGAZINE, on newsstands now: “The consensus at Chatelaine is that Gail Collins can do no wrong…”

THE HORSE BOY documentary premiered in Canada on Nov 13. The film has had fantastic reviews in numerous media outlets, including the TORONTO STAR, NATIONAL POST, METRO NEWS, TRIBUTE.CA, CTV.CA, EYE WEEKLY. The TORONTO STAR gave the film 3 of 4 stars, and said it “ succeeds both as a provocative inquiry into the mysteries of autism and as a true-life adventure tale.” All this movie publicity is giving Rupert Isaacson’s book of the same name a nice publicity push, as many of the reviews also mention the book. Note as well that NOW MAGAZINE, a Toronto alt weekly, ran a contest and we provided books as prizing.

Sue Johnson, author of HOLD ME TIGHT, had a feature interview Nov 12 on CBC Radio’s IDEAS (national radio). Her book has been out since April 2008 and remains ranked close to the top 100 on Amazon.ca.

JULIE POWELL, author of CLEAVING (Little Brown, Dec), will be interviewed next week in New York by GLOBE AND MAIL Life columnist Sarah Hampson. The interview is schedule to run just after the pub date – around Dec 3/4/5 (date TBC).
